Winter Again

It's been cold. The boys counted down as the temp monitor in the minivan reached -40 the other day. I think they thought I higher number was better. On top of cold, it's windy. Windy in the tundra isn't much fun. We escaped for a date over the weekend into the blowing cold. Desperate to get out from under and leave the house, the children who've been home too much and just leave stuff behind. We could see the blowing winds, we might have even questioned the intelligence of going out, but as we left, we whispered something about no loner being hostages at home. A few bottles of wine and a few degrees cooler, we approached our own "arctic gulch" returning to our home, around 10:00 pm. Also know as the Museum Rd wind tunnel. We approached it with too much timidity and we were stuck. Sure, we tried to shovel. We walked the 1/2-mile home and got more shovels, things to get the car moved. It was fun. A romantic date. One where your baby-sitter, mother-in-law has to spend the night because you're stranded again. Hostage in our home. and now without a car. Ah, yes, winter on a country road in Iowa. April is coming, baby, it's coming.
